Pachypodol

Pachypodol is a chemical compound. It can be isolated from Pachypodanthium confine, from Chinese herb Agastache folium and from leaves of Agastache rugosa (Korean mint). Pachypodol behaves as a Hill reaction inhibitor. It inhibited the uncoupled electron flow on photosystem II partial reaction from water to dichlorophenol indophenol (DCPIP) and from water to sodium silicomolybdate. While the general toxicity of pachypodol was determined by the brine shrimp lethality assay, the cytotoxic potential of this flavonoid has been evaluated by the Promega's CellTiter 96 Non-Radioactive Cell Proliferation Assay using the CaCo-2 colon cancer cell line (IC(50) = 185.6 microM). Pachypodol is unique to agastache rugosa, and may be responsible for some of the beneficial properties of the plant.
